Introductory meeting for the Exit Exam for students of the Physics Department

Based on the vision and mission of the Department of Physics to prepare a strong graduate capable of competing in the labor market, and supported by the directives of His Excellency Dr. Abdul Rahman Al Harithi, Dean of the College of Sciences and Humanities in Al Kharj, Prince Sattam bin Abdulaziz University, the Department of Physics held an introductory meeting about the Physics Readiness Test on Wednesday, 6-March-2024 in the hall of the Physics Department, in the presence of students expected to graduate.
The introductory meeting began with the readiness test at ten o’clock in the morning, with a welcoming and guiding speech from His Excellency Dr. Sattam Alswagi, Head of the Physics Department, and in the presence of His Excellency Dr. Hisham Jumaa, Professor of Theoretical Physics in the Department and former Head of the Physics Department, where His Excellency Dr. Sattam stressed the importance of the readiness test and the necessity of taking the subject seriously. sufficient for the student to achieve the distinguished level, which indicates the strength of the physics program that the student studied. He also stressed that the department, with all its material and human capabilities, is fully prepared to work on introducing the department’s students to the readiness test and pushing them to achieve a distinguished level in the test. Then His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Al-Morsi presented the topic The lecture included the definition and objectives of the readiness test and its importance for the student in the labor market. His Excellency also touched on the benefits of the readiness test for employers, and how the student can benefit from the results of the test. Then, His Excellency presented in detail the content of the readiness test from the various branches of physics (science, traditional mechanics, optics, modern physics, and other various branches of physics) and the relative weights of each of these branches in the aptitude test.
He also presented in the lecture a set of important tips that will help the student successfully pass the readiness test.
At the end of the meeting, there was a discussion and questions section in which the students interacted by asking many questions, which, if they indicated anything, indicated the students’ interest in the topic of the lecture. They demanded the necessity of holding other meetings on the same topic to learn about the types of questions and what the useful references are for them to pass the readiness test at the required level.
In conclusion, the students thanked His Excellency Dr. Sattam Al-Otaibi and all the faculty members of the Physics Department for their efforts in achieving the department’s goals, the most important of which is preparing distinguished students capable of participating in achieving the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.
A talented student won third place in the TISF 2024 International Science Fair

uring an event that witnessed the presence of His Excellency the Head of the Physics Department, Dr. Sattam Alswagi, the gifted student Abdullah bin Fahd Al-Otaibi from Ibn Al-Nafis Secondary School, who is participating in the gifted program, was honored by the Director of Education in Al-Kharj.
This honor came in recognition of his winning third place in the field of environmental engineering as part of his participation in the International Scientific Exhibition for Innovations, TISF 2024, which was held in Taiwan.
This achievement is the result of joint efforts between the College of Sciences and Human Studies, represented by the Department of Physics, and the Department of Education in Al-Kharj, under the supervision of His Excellency Dr. Talal Qahtan.
A lecture entitled “The Journey of Obtaining a Patent”

Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Sciences and Human Studies, His Excellency Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Harithi, and the supervision of the Physics Department, headed by His Excellency Dr. Sattam Alswagi, Dr. Mazen Al-Shaer, assistant professor in the department, delivered a lecture entitled “The Journey of Obtaining a Patent” at the theater of the College of Sciences and Humanities on Tuesday, 02-13-2024 AD and 08-03-1445 AH.
Dr. has done Mazen presents and clarifies all matters related to the types of patents, how to obtain them, and the mechanisms and methods for registering these patents in various international bodies. The lecture witnessed a group of questions and discussions from the audience, including some members of the college’s teaching staff. The lecture received admiration and praise from everyone because of the valuable information it contained.

The Academic Advising Unit in the Department of Physics at the College of Science and Humanities (Male Section) held a program entitled “Introduction Meeting for New Students” for the academic year 1445, second semester, on Tuesday, 18/07/1445 AH.
His Excellency Dr. Satam Fahad Alswagi- Head of the Physics Department at the College of Sciences and Humanities in Al-Kharj, gave a welcome speech and gave general instructions to the new students, including the necessity of adhering to the university’s rules and regulations, communicating with faculty members, and benefiting from their experience. He also urged them to interact with the university’s electronic and academic services and learning resources.
An overview of the rights and duties of the university student was also given, as well as the most important academic processes in the university study regulations and examinations.
At the end of the meeting, students were heard and their questions and inquiries were answered.

Under the patronage of the Vice Dean of the College of Sciences and Humanities in Al-Kharj, Dr. Nawal Al-Fuhaid, the Student Work Unit, represented by cultural and social activities in the Physics Department, held a cultural symposium (Theoretical Physics and Green Hydrogen Production: A Path to Achieving the Goals of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030) presented by Dr. Mutaib Al-Osaimi on Monday, December 11, 2023, on Zoom at 7 pm, which aims to (explain the importance of theoretical physics, what is the concept of green hydrogen, and why do we need hydrogen energy? And the role of theoretical physics in achieving the goals of Vision 2030)
The symposium included a presentation that explained green hydrogen production techniques and examples of the use of green hydrogen. It also touched on an explanation of the goals of Vision 2030 related to the environment and energy, the role of research and clean technologies, and examples of research and projects supporting this topic.
The symposium received admiration and approval from everyone.

This event aims to ensure early detection of breast cancer and emphasize the importance of early diagnosis because of its significant impact on recovery and avoiding complications.
The event included an awareness lecture by specialists from the maternity hospital in which medical information and advice were presented. Methods for early detection and diagnosis of breast cancer were presented, in addition to sections aimed at increasing awareness of this disease, which is the most common among women, and distributions. The event was attended by a number of college employees and female students. He received praise from everyone for the purposeful paragraphs by the club’s students.

Under the auspices of the Vice Dean of the College of Sciences and Humanities in Al-Kharj, Dr. Nawal Al-Fuhaid, the Student Clubs Division of the Student Work Unit, represented by the Life Physics Club in the Physics Department, on Wednesday, 04-03-1445 AH, in the Central Laboratory Meeting Hall in the Student Section of the College of Sciences and Humanities, at 9 a.m., held a A course on the preparation and characterization of nanoparticles, which began with Dr. Fathia Al-Hakami gave an introduction, and then the course was presented by a group of female students from the Emerging Researchers Initiative. They gave a presentation on the devices used in the characterization and preparation of nanomaterials. After that, we moved to the laboratories to learn how they work experimentally, and they gave an applied presentation of advanced scientific devices. The course aimed to develop scientific culture, cognitive culture, and research culture. It helps in dealing with research equipment and increases students’ interest in learning about in-depth and accurate research areas and how science is created. The course was well received by the organizers, faculty members, and students participating in the course.

Within the framework of the Physics Department’s keenness on social responsibility towards the educational process in the community surrounding the university and as a contribution to achieving the department’s mission in the community service axis, the Physics Department, headed by Dr. Satam Fahad Alswagi- Head of the Physics Department at the College of Sciences and Humanities in Al-Kharj, received Prince Sattam bin Abdulaziz University - on Tuesday. 17/10/2023, corresponding to 02/04/1445 AH, a delegation (thirty students) of secondary school students at Al-Bukhari School in Al-Kharj, headed by Mr. Sami Muhammad Al-Mohsen, Mr. Abdullah Abdul-Rahman, the educational supervisor, and Mr. Atallah Mamdouh Al-Anazi, the student supervisor.
The students were able to visit the physics laboratories, as the visit began at exactly eight-thirty in the morning, where Dr. Abdullah Kaeba, professor of materials physics in the department, received the students. The beginning was with a visit to the optics laboratory in the department - under the supervision of Dr. Mohamed Al-Morsi - and the students conducted three experiments, namely determining the speed of light and investigating The phenomena of diffraction and polarization of light.
The students then went on to visit the magnetism laboratory under the supervision of Dr. Mahdi Al Mahdi, where he gave the students a thorough explanation of the concept of magnetism and explained how to determine the Earth’s magnetic field. The students also watched the Thompson experiment and studied the effect of the electric and magnetic fields on the course of the electron beam’s movement.
The students were also able to visit the Electricity and Light Laboratory under the supervision of Mr. Salem Al-Ghanem, a lecturer in the department, where he explained how capacitors work with a practical application of the experiment of charging and discharging capacitors.
Dr. Ali Abd Elrahman, Nuclear Laboratory Supervisor, also gave a comprehensive explanation of the most important nuclear physics experiments, especially measuring radiation using a Geiger counter, methods of protecting against radiation, and how to deal with radioactive sources.
Dr. Talal Qahtan, assistant professor in the department, was also keen to be at the reception of the students during their visit to the graduation projects laboratory for eighth-level students in the department - under the supervision of Dr. Mazen Al-Shaer - where he introduced the students in a practical and comprehensive way to the most important graduation projects that the laboratory contributed to their completion.
It is worth noting that the college was keen to introduce the students to the college’s departments, as Dr. Nabil Abdel Fattah accompanied the students and the trip supervisors to visit the general chemistry laboratory - under the supervision of Dr. Majed Azzam. He also led the students during their visit to learn about the departments of mathematics, biology, and the English language.
As is usual, the visit concludes with an open meeting with the department head and a group of faculty members in the department with the students, where students are greeted and an open discussion is held about some physics concepts that are of interest to secondary school students, and the importance of the role of physics in building modern civilization.

Based on the role of the Physics Department in promoting community and educational participation, His Excellency Dr. Satam Fahad Alswagi, Head of the Physics Department at the College of Sciences and Humanities in Al-Kharj, received on Tuesday, 10/10/2023 AD (03/25/1445 AH), a generous delegation of secondary school students at Al-Kharj School. The delegation was headed by Mr. Muhammad Al-Jahfali, a physics teacher and one of the department’s former graduates, and Mr. Muhammad Sweilem, the student activity officer at Al-Kharj Secondary School.
It is worth noting that the Department of Physics has specialized laboratories in many sciences, for example optics, magnetism, nuclear, materials science, and analogue and digital electronics.
The department's faculty members and physics laboratory supervisors provided theoretical clarification and practical application of some physical phenomena to students in the secondary stage.
The visit concluded with a welcoming ceremony for the students, which included a meeting with His Excellency the Department Head and a group of professors to give the students important advice for their future and answer their questions.

Under the auspices of the Vice Dean of the College of Sciences and Human Studies, Dr. Nawal Al-Fuhaid, the Student Clubs Division united the student work, represented by the Physics Club in the Physics Department, with Ashraf Mr. Turkia Al-Shammari and members of the Physics Club.

This event included: Introduction, a speech by the club president in which she discussed the club’s vision and goals and reviewed and clarified the plan, a speech by the deputy in which she mentioned the principles of work in the club and its most important features, a video in which behind the scenes of the club’s work and previous activities were shown, discussing some ideas and receiving suggestions and opinions from female students.

The Physics Department at the College of Science and Humanities in Al-Kharj has organized a scientific trip for the students of the department, both male and female branches, to the "CERN" exhibition in Riyadh on Monday 28 Shaaban 1444 AH corresponding to 03/20/2023 AD at 8:00 am to 3:00 pm. The trip was organized under the auspices of the Dean of the College of Science and Humanities, His Excellency Dr./ Abdul Rahman Al-Harithy, and the Head of the Physics Department, His Excellency Dr. Satam Fahad Alswagi. The scientific trip was supervised by Dr. Talal Al-Qahtan and Dr. Hesham Shahbunder from the male students’ branch, and Dr. Samah Abdullah and Dr. Fathia Al-Hakami from the female students’ branch.
The trip included students getting acquainted with the basic components of the CERN experiment project located near Geneva in Switzerland, which is the largest laboratory in the world in the field of particle physics, including tens of kilometers of laboratory tunnels, main detectors and its recent discoveries that led to obtaining the Nobel Prize for Physics in 2013 after the experimental discovery of the Higgs Boson particle. The students interacted actively in the exhibition with pictures, posters, film recordings, and the distinguished interactive shows in the exhibition, such as the recording of "The Origin of the Universe" and the electronic interactive display "Proton Football", which showed the impact of protons colliding with different energies, which had an enthusiastic impact on the students to learn more about this experience. unique science. The students also reviewed other parts of the exhibition related to radiation detection and nuclear detectors such as the Geiger counter and TLD detectors for measuring personal doses, and how to obtain the necessary licenses to work in a safe manner in the nuclear fields in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Under the supervision of the Vice Dean of the College of Sciences and Humanities in Al-Kharj, Her Excellency Dr./ Nawal Al-Fuhaid, and Her Excellency the Vice Dean of the Physics Department, Dr./ Wafaa Al-Sharqawi, the Cultural and Social Activities Division of the Student Work Unit of the Physics Department under the supervision of Ms./ Turkia Al-Shammari along with the members of the Life Physics Club, have organized a workshop titled "Physics of Interfaces for Solar Energy Harvesting and Environmental Treatment." The workshop was presented by His Excellency Dr./ Talal Qahtan, assistant professor in the department on yesterday Wednesday, 3 Rajab, 1444 at 10:00 -12:00 PM in the College of Science and Humanities, Female Section.
The workshop discussed several examples of employing simple physics in reducing environmental pollution and finding different alternatives, including solar cells because of their many advantages, and making a clear experiment for solid and liquid physics, and discussing with the students what was presented in the scientific material. This was followed by examples and inferences, including mentioning female students who won in the field of physics at the university level and secondary students at the graduate school level as an example of creativity without limits in physics.

In the context of promoting community and educational service, coordination and cooperation was made by the Physics Department to receive a generous delegation of students from Al-Kharj National Secondary School and students of Elite National School in Al-Kharj on Wednesday, corresponding to October 26, 2022 AD at nine in the morning, in order to visit the department and learn about modern scientific experiences and benefit from the Professors' experiences. Under the patronage of His Excellency the Dean of the College of Sciences and Human Studies, Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Harthy, and the coordination between His Excellency the Vice-Deans and His Excellency the Director of Forsan Al-Jazirah Private Schools, the Secondary Department, Professor Fahd Muhammad Al-Aba Al-Hassan, the Physics Department of the College, headed by His Excellency Dr. Satam Fahad Alswagi, received a delegation of students from Forsan Al-Jazirah Private Schools on Tuesday 10/11/2022 am to visit the department's laboratories and learn about applied scientific experiments in the field of electrical and photovoltaic physics, modern physics, electromagnetic physics and the central laboratories of the college. In a touching meeting as an expression of loyalty and sincerity, the Physics Department held on Monday 24/2/1444 AH at 2:30 pm a ceremonial farewell party to one of its members of the faculty, His Excellency Dr. Muhammad Shoqair, in honor of him after serving the department for more than nine years, before leaving Kingdom permanently and go to his country.
The ceremony was held in the presence of His Excellency Dr. Satam Fahad Alswagi, Head of the Physics Department, and with the participation of His Excellency Dr. Muhammad Al-Yami, Vice Dean for Scientific Research. All faculty members of the Physics Department attended the ceremony to bid farewell to their colleague and celebrate him before his departure.
The attendees then gathered around a lunch prepared on the occasion of the celebration in good company before the conclusion of the celebration and took some memorial photos with Dr. Mohamed Shoqair, hoping for him to complete the march of success and progress wherever he is.

On the occasion of the start of the new academic year for the year 1444 AH (2022-2023 AD), the Physics Department, headed by His Excellency Dr. Satam Fahad Alswagi, Head of the Physics Department, and with the participation of His Excellency Dr. Muhammad Al-Yami, Vice Dean for Scientific Research, Prof. Hisham Jumaa, the former head of the department, and a group of professors from the department, the meeting Induction for new students to the department on Sunday 11/9/2022 at nine thirty in the morning.
