The Department of Biology is considered one of the basic departments in the faculties of science, as it works to achieve a balance in the knowledge and skills of the graduate so that it combines theory and practice with scientific life and his personal needs, through distinct scientific plans that meet the requirements of international academic standards.
The establishment of the department was approved in the year 1433 AH, and studies began in the first semester of the academic year 1433-1434 AH. The department is for female students only so far.
The Department of Biology offers its academic program over four academic years divided into eight levels, through which it grants a bachelor's degree in biology. on the other side. The department also contributes to the provision of biology courses to the departments of the college, such as the Department of Chemistry.
Degree granted by the department:
The department awards a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology.
The importance of studying biology:
Biology studies living organisms and how they interact with each other, their environment in general, and their relationship to humans.
Biology examines living organisms in terms of their structure, nutrition, reproduction, nature, characteristics, types, and laws governing their ways of living, developing, and interacting with their natural environment.
Biology discovers living organisms in terms of: the extent of their benefit to humans and harnessing them to him, the damages resulting from them, methods of prevention, and methods of resistance to harmful organisms.
Modern biology is based on four unifying principles that form the basis of this science: cell theory, evolution, genetics, and homeostasis.
Biology includes several branches, the most important of which are microbiology, zoology, botany, physiology, biochemistry, and ecology. With the advancement of this science, since the nineteenth century, it has become closely related to other sciences, both theoretical and applied, such as medicine, pharmacy and other technical fields that meet the necessary and continuous human needs.
