About the Department
A Brief Introduction to the Department of English Language and Literature
The Department of English Language and Literature was established following the issuance of the Higher Education Council's Decision No. 18/48/1428 on 27/12/1428 AH, under the royal approval No. (5151)/M B dated 3/7/1429 AH. The study began for male students in the first semester of the academic year 1428-1429 AH, while female students started in their study in the first semester of the academic year 1431-1432 AH.
The Department of English Language and Literature at Prince Sattam bin Abdulaziz University was founded with the aim of enhancing behavioral skills and communication abilities among youth, training their minds for logical thinking, critical reading, and effective communication. Therefore, all faculty members strive to prepare graduates who are trained in critical thinking, proficient in speaking and writing creatively, and capable of acquiring various skills and knowledge to serve and develop their community.
The Bachelor’s program in English Language and Literature aims to equip students with the necessary language skills in translation, literary analysis, and communication. The four language skills are considered fundamental for teaching English as a foreign language and align with market demands and the goals of Saudi Vision 2030.
To achieve these objectives, keep pace with contemporary developments and specializations, and enable students to engage in the job market across various fields that require proficiency in English—such as teaching English in schools and institutes, translation (both written and simultaneous), and roles in industry, commerce, journalism, advertising, management, marketing, and trade—there arose a need to revise the currently approved bachelor’s program to introduce new courses in language, translation, and literature.
Thus, we are not only focused on developing the bachelor’s program but also aim to meet the university’s requirements by providing a highly qualified faculty, ensuring that graduates are capable of contributing to the sustainable development of their nation, with a specific emphasis on mastering essential language skills.
