MA Program in Linguistics.
The Department of English Language and Literature offers a 2-Year Master’s Program in Linguistics. The program caters to the higher education academic needs of this region. The courses offered in this MA program include Research Methods in Linguistics, Syntax, Psycholinguistics, English for Specific Purposes (ESP), Semantics, Phonology, Advanced Studies in Micro-linguistics, Comparative Linguistics, Language Testing and Assessment, Pragmatics & Discourse Analysis, Stylistics, Sociolinguistics, Computational Linguistics, TEFL besides a Capstone project in the last semester.
The MA program is significant for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for following reasons:
- Providing and grooming the qualified cadres who can readily contribute to the renaissance of the kingdom and enable the distinguished BA-holding students to pursue their way through postgraduate studies regionally, as the Department of English Language and Literature has graduated a number of students who hold a bachelor’s degree in English Language and Literature.
- Enabling the College of Science and Humanities with all its various specializations to serve the society in terms of its different occupational and professional sectors.
- Preparing researchers in the various specializations needed by society to deal with those practical and technological fields that draw on English language and its wide applications
- Aiding other colleges, e.g. Colleges of Education and Computer Science, in conducting joint research and workshops.

Admission Requirements for the MA program in Linguistics:

The candidate must hold a BA degree (or its equivalent) from any university recognized by the MOE either inside or outside the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The candidate must have a GPA of (3.25) out of (5) at the bachelor's degree level as a minimum to be admitted in the program.

The candidate must be a Saudi national or a non-Saudi who has obtained an official scholarship through one of the cultural exchange programs.

The candidate must not have previously been dismissed from any university for disciplinary or academic reasons.

The candidate must have a total score of 5 on the IELTS academic test or its equivalent.

The candidate must pass the personal interview held by the Department of English Language and Literature.

The candidate must have the approval of the employer if he/she works in either the government sector or the private sector.
Program Description
Driven by the university's management to keep pace with global developments in postgraduate programs, and in line with the Kingdom's Vision 2030 to achieve an educational system linked to the needs of the labour market, the Master's program in Linguistics has been established in the Department of English Language and Literature in Al-Kharj.
This program aims to equip students with a set of language skills based on a deep understanding of language at its various levels, such as grammar, morphology, phonetics, semantics, pragmatics, sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics, and discourse analysis.
The program includes theoretical and practical studies that help the enrolled students develop their skills in scientific research and linguistic analysis of various types of texts and data, enabling them to pursue doctoral studies.
Through research projects and academic discussions, the program also seeks to prepare graduates capable of serving their community and competing in the job market in various fields such as education, journalism, advertising, management, marketing, business, and others, thus realizing the university's aspirations and the college's objectives.
